Marriage by Design

The sad reality is that over half of the people who read this page are either divorced or they will be divorced.

How do the hopes and dreams of a beautiful lifetime together begin to unravel into arguments, financial problems, infidelity, and the pressures of work or busy schedules? Before you know it, checking your e-mail becomes more important than spending time with your spouse.

Biblical Role of Women

When I told one of the elders at my church what I was writing it on… he told me a funny story about his son. One day when his son was in class the teacher said, “today we are going to talk about the roles of women and men” and the little boy and one of his friends blurted out “women dont have roles, they make rolls!”

In today’s quick paced culture it is easy to conform to the changing times without notice. We are a society built on recognition and success, and when these dynamics permeate into our belief system, it can be challenging to identify and evaluate the impact they have on how we live our lives. One of the largest ways these values have influenced us is in our view of the roles of men and women.

What is Discipleship?

When given the assignment to interview pastors on the topic of discipleship, it took me a while to decide who I wanted to ask and what people would have good perspectives to glean from.

I’M SO MAD!!!

You know, there are some people that are angry at everything? Other times anger seems justifiable. But how could Paul say, “Be angry, but do not sin…” how in the world do we do that? Yeah, yeah, I hear ya!

The Tongue

James 1:19-27 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. 20 For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. 21 So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves. 23 For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someone who gazes at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgets what sort of person he was. 25 But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out–he will be blessed in what he does. 26 If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Endless Repetition is for Monkeys, God’s Reputation is for Christians

Memorizing Scripture is actually not difficult at all. After all, any monkey can be trained just by endless repetition. People memorize all the time. They memorize songs, forms at work, directions, etc…
